CALBERT PALMER

 Trainer

Calbert has always been involved in various sports from a young age. Playing in competitive leagues, he has been involved in football, soccer, cross-country, track and field, and basketball. Calbert has placed the top of his age group in track and field events, earning top ranking in Halton District 100m, 200m sprints and 400m relay races. Motivated by his ability to excel in sports, his parents later placed him in football, soccer and basketball leagues. Although he excelled in all sports, his true passion was for football. His passion and desire for the sport complemented his genetic edge as Calbert lead his team in tackles and sacks in his first season. In this same season he won the Bantam Skills Competition in the BMFA league.

This success continued as Calbert reached high school where he became the first freshman to start on the OTHS varsity football team as the running back and punt returner. Calbert trained vigorously by attending multiple football training camps and boot camps lead by the former Vanier Cup winning McMaster University and former Hamilton Tiger Cats Coach Greg Marshall. Calbert’s hard work and training proved rewarding as his team won the Halton Championship in his senior year.

Once leaving high school Calbert went to York University where he studied sport and human movement through Kinesiology. Earning experience in strength training, circuit training and sport specific training Calbert applied theories learned in physiology, biomechanics, anatomy and nutrition to his life. Ongoing education outside of York landed Calbert many other additional certifications related to the field of health sciences but his type A personality and tendency to want to help others directed him towards the study of fire suppression and rescue.

Currently Calbert is in the Fire and Emergency Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training Program at Humber College. He plans to complete his training in June 2011.
